In Indonesia, construction of the Light Rail Transit (LRT), which will become a part of the railway network in the metropolitan district, along with the Jakarta Mass Rapid Transit (MRT, to be completed after 2018) is rapidly progressing. MRT will run inside Jakarta city area, while LRT will mainly connect the city and suburban areas. In the zone along the LRT, Transit Oriented Development (TOD), a project lowering citizens’ dependence on automobiles, has been under way at the same time as the railway construction. Urban development centering on the stations seems to be rapidly progressing.
